Donna Jo Massie uses watercolours to convey the pure light and altitude of the Rocky Mountain landscape. Her colour palette is comprised of pure pigments and she uses strong values in her compositions to express the verticals and horizontals found in the elements of the strata of the rock, flow of the water, abundance of trees, skies, vegetation and human presence. She uses Hot Press watercolour board and paper which floats the paint on the surface and enhances the texture of these subjects.
