LAURENTIAN GREEN
Stewart Steinhauer’s sculptures are carved out of a variety of granites, using a combination of tooling ranging from carbide-tipped chisel and mallet to hand held power cutting and polishing equipment. A band member at Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Steinhauer utilizes an Indigenous methodology, working without sketches or models in the so-called ‘direct’ method. His sculptural works may be installed indoors or outdoors.
